About the station

Bristol Temple Meads is one of the city’s most iconic and beautiful landmarks. The station’s unique name was inspired by the nearby Temple Church, whose grounds included meadows that ran alongside the River Avon. Unfortunately, World War II bombs heavily damaged the Temple Church, although its legacy continues through the station.

This iconic station was initially built in 1840 and served train routes as far as Bath. 180 years on, Bristol Temple Meads station serves routes across the UK and is one of the busiest outside of London. CrossCountry serves popular routes such as Bristol to Manchester, Bristol to Edinburgh, Bristol to Birmingham, and Leeds to Bristol.

Things to do in Bristol

The largest city in the Southwest of England, Bristol is famous for its hipster culture, street art, and the suspension bridge. Bristol attracts tonnes of visitors each year, with holidaymakers coming from all walks of life, raring to explore Bristol's rich combination of heritage and edgy vibes. Whether you'd enjoy a stroll down the River Avon and soak up the Georgian history or immerse yourself in Bristol's fine selection of food and drink offerings, this city has something for everyone.

The home of world-renowned mystery artist Banksy, Bristol is unsurprisingly thriving with fantastic art and culture. Even if this isn't your gig, you should visit the historic docks for the free M-shed museum. You'll learn Bristol's story through well-crafted film, photographs, and personal stories. To gain an aerial view of the city and harbour, head up Park Street to climb the steps of Cabot Tower – you won't be disappointed with the view. If you're with the kids, go to the Bristol Zoo Gardens , where they can play in the gardens, see the animals, and enjoy the attractions – it's always a family favourite.

If you're looking for some retail therapy, Bristol certainly won't disappoint. In the Bristol Shopping Quarter, you'll certainly find what you're looking for with over five-hundred shops, restaurants and cafes all in one area. But for something a little quirkier, St. James Arcade and the Christmas Steps Arts Quarter will throw you back in time with its historical architecture and home to various boutique stores, independent dealers, and local craftsmen and designers.

We all know the icing on the cake for a great trip is excellent food and drink. Bristol is packed full of independent bars, restaurants, and cafes, making it the perfect city for foodies. With a choice of Michelin-starred gourmet restaurants to flavour-packed street food, you'll be able to get a taste of locally sourced produce and talented chefs anywhere. If you're in the city, don't miss out on visiting St Nicholas Market to find street food, stalls, and more historical architecture - it's great for kids and adults alike. To cap off a great day, Bristol has a vast choice of great pubs, bars, and clubs – bottoms up.
