Local school children from the New Forest got into the coronation celebrations in May with a new station sign made from stones painted with golden royal crowns.
Organised by the New Forest Community Rail Partnership, children from local schools in Brockenhurst and Lymington gathered in the dedicated garden opposite Platform 4 to see the result of their work.
The project was the culmination Royalty-themed schemes with the local CRP, including clearing the garden area by the station car park to create the Jubilee Garden in 2022. To ensure the grasses and planted wildflowers thrive the garden are is maintained by the Friends of Brockenhurst Station.
Speaking after the unveiling, West & Wales Regional Director, Huw Margetts, said: “Its great to see the enthusiasm of the children for the coronation of King Charles III. Their efforts have delivered a stunning sign that will brighten the journeys of people travelling by train. I’m also pleased to see how our funding has helped transform an overgrown and unloved area of the station. As well as New Forest we work closely with many CRPs across the country, helping them make the railway and its services a bigger part of their local community.”
