- Train timetables are changing to enable more reliable journeys over the bank holiday weekend
- Engineering work across the network could also lead to longer journeys or bus replacement services for some customers
Long-distance train operator CrossCountry is asking passengers planning rail getaways this Easter to check ahead to ensure smooth and reliable journeys.
Until Saturday 6 April - including over the Easter bank holiday weekend - changes to CrossCountry’s usual timetable will ensure more reliable journeys and fewer on-the-day cancellations for customers planning to travel over Easter.
Focusing on specific services over certain periods of the bank holiday weekend will reduce the chance that these key services are cancelled - ensuring rail passengers can reach their destinations safely and smoothly over the long weekend.
Additionally, planned engineering work on various CrossCountry routes will mean increased journey times and bus replacement services at different times over the Easter weekend*.
Richard Morris, CrossCountry’s Service Delivery Director, said: “This Easter we’re dedicated to keeping last-minute cancellations to a minimum for customers around the country.
“We know that the Easter holidays are a popular time for leisure travel, and this year a range of factors mean there will be more changes than normal to CrossCountry services over the bank holiday weekend.
“As usual for this time of year, we’re asking customers to check before they travel on the CrossCountry app or with National Rail Enquiries to make sure their journey is going ahead as planned.”

Long-distance train operator CrossCountry has announced adjustments to its timetable from 14 December, as part of the rail industry’s twice-yearly timetable review.

- CrossCountry will operate a reduced timetable over the Bank Holiday weekend – with no services on Saturday 23 August - due to industrial action by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT)
- Services on Sunday 24 August are also likely to be subject to cancellations across all CrossCountry routes
- Passengers are advised not to travel on Saturday 23 August and to travel on either side of the Bank Holiday weekend, or claim a full refund
