Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership (TVCRP) has teamed up with CrossCountry and the University of Northumbria to offer a student a work opportunity as a Tourism Development Intern.

Funded by CrossCountry’s Community Engagement Fund, Matthew Barrett will work alongside the TVCRP team to carry out a tourism audit of the Newcastle to Carlisle line, as well as assisting with marketing plans over the coming 12 months.

Matthew came to the role following two years at the University of Northumbria studying Business Management.

Fiona Forsythe, TVCRP Officer, said: “We are all looking forward to working with Matthew. From research we have already we know that many tourists use the Tyne Valley line. Matthew’s role will now enable us to understand how we can encourage more visitors to the line and the many other attractions the area has to offer.”
