Penistone Line Community Rail Partnership and ArtWorks South Yorkshire, a dedicated supporter and station adopter, proudly launched their first art exhibition at Sheffield Station.

Funded through CrossCountry’s Community Engagement Fund, the exhibition at the station is a creative response to the “Tales from the Rails” project, which celebrates captivating stories from Sheffield’s early rail history. Pupils from Newfield School meticulously researched, wrote, and recorded these stories in collaboration with Paul and Gertie Whitfield from Whitworks Adventures in Theatre (WAT).

As part of the project, the pupils travelled between Sheffield and London with East Midlands Railway, accompanied by Sarah Wells, Community Rail Officer for the Penistone Line Partnership and colleagues from WAT. During their journey they designed a QR code poster for the exhibition, allowing visitors to easily access and enjoy the “Tales from the Rails”.

The exhibition will be on display at Sheffield Station until August 27, 2024. You can learn more about the project and listen to the stories here.

ArtWorks are an inspiring organisation committed to empowering adults with learning disabilities and autism, helping them unlock their potential and develop essential life skills through creative workshops and placements.
