Pollinator friendly plants bring life to Derby station

The front of Derby station has been enhanced by new insect pollinator friendly plants thanks to North Staffs Community Rail Partnership and funding from CrossCountry’s community engagement fund (CCEF).

The garden by the bus stops and taxi rank at the front of the station is now a better space for passengers, with five trough planters installed and planted up using funding from CCEF to buy the materials. This has been part of a larger project which has seen new fencing installed, better lighting introduced to the area, new railway sleeper troughs with decorative metal surrounds and the donation of a large bug hotel.

The area is now more inviting, bringing colour and fragrance along with helping the local environment by encouraging more insects into the urban space. The plants were put in by new station adopters, Tracsis in May arranged by East Midlands Railway.
