About the station
Coventry train station is one of the fastest-growing stations outside London and is situated in a city etched in transport history. Did you know that Coventry is home to the first British motor car and modern bicycle? Coventry station has gone through some significant renovations in its time; with the original building being grounded during the Blitz, the current station building was constructed. The station was awarded Grade II listing in 1995 for its long-lasting contemporary design. However, to withstand modern demands, Coventry Station has gone through further refurbishment while maintaining and honouring the design aspects of the original building.
Initially built in 1838, Coventry train station remains the main railway station in Coventry and operates routes across a variety of popular destinations in the UK. CrossCountry serves popular routes such as Coventry to Manchester, Coventry to Oxford, Manchester to Coventry and Nottingham to Coventry.
Things to do in Coventry
Coventry is one of the largest cities in central England and is etched in pioneering British history. Being the birthplace of the British motor industry and the world's first modern bicycle, Coventry is the pioneering capital for modern personal transport. This combination of history, architecture, and modern design creates an eclectic mix of what makes a great modern city. Whether you're looking for a cultural day out, a fun family trip, or a romantic getaway, this culture-rich city has something for everyone.
Coventry is a city with plenty to offer when it comes to culture and will leave you spoilt for choice with things to do. As Coventry is the epicentre for British transport history, it is rightly home to UK's biggest transport museum, which is interesting for kids and adults alike. A city heavily bombed during the Blitz in World War II, the Cathedral was heavily damaged with only parts remaining. However, after modern refurbishment, it stands in unison with a new building to create a totally unique structure – it's worth exploring. Suppose you'd like to stretch your legs and tire out the kids, Coventry has plenty of green spaces with Coombe Abbey Park, War Memorial Park and Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve all on offer.
If you're looking to treat yourself to a spot of shopping, Coventry certainly won't leave you disappointed. The long-established West Orchards is the central spot for all your classic high street names, with a cracking choice of shops and eateries. But if you're looking for something a little quirkier, then take a stroll to FarGo Village – once an old factory but now repurposed to home independent trendy dealers. Filled with modern street art, artisan eateries and trendy designers.
After an exhausting day of exploring and shopping, there's no better way to cap it off than some great food or drink. Coventry’s eclectic mix of food choices will leave you the difficult decision of where to eat. There is something for any occasion from the street food market at FarGo, exclusive fine dining experiences, and family-favourite chains.
