Things to do in Filton

The town of Filton sits on the suburbs of Bristol in South Gloucestershire. Bristol has a long and impressive engineering pedigree, so it should be no surprise to learn that Filton has inherited this legacy. Nearby is Aerospace Bristol, an air and space museum on Hayes Way with exhibits and vehicles chronicling more than 100 years of flight. The museum is even home to the last Concorde.

For a touch of nature without leaving town, explore Splatts Abbey Wood on Long Down Avenue. The woods are a small nature reserve only a few minutes from the station. Step back in time at the Blaise Castle Estate, less than four miles from Filton Abbey Wood on Kings Weston Road. The 650-acre estate includes Blaise Castle, Blaise Castle House and lots more to keep you and your family entertained. The estate includes a children’s play area, and subject to conditions, it is also permissible to fly drones in the park.

If you want to delve deeper into some local history, then the Frenchay Village Museum on Begbrook Park could be for you. The museum isn’t open every day so check before you go. The Wild Place Project on Blackhorse Hill might be right for you if you love animals. This family attraction is home to bears, wolves, zebras and more. There are play areas for the kids and if you are feeling brave enough, you can take part in the outdoor climbing adventure Leap of Faith.

With the Bristol and Gloucestershire countryside right on your doorstep, there is lots to explore in and around Filton, so make sure you leave plenty of time to discover something new on your next visit.

We have created a dedicated ‘things to do’ page highlighting activities and destinations from across the country, so inspiration for your next trip is only a click away.
