About the station
Guildford station has long been a key station on routes connecting London with the rest of the United Kingdom. In fact, the station itself was opened to serve the London and South Western Railway in 1845. It has since expanded its services to reach all corners of the country, following a substantial remodel in 1880. Over the years, Guildford has served the Reading, Guildford, and Reigate Railway, South Eastern Railway, and the Cranleigh Line – all of which have subsequently become disused.
Guildford station now serves a great variety of routes from its seven platforms, operated by Great Western Railway, South Western Railway, and CrossCountry Trains. Nestled firmly in the heart of Guildford, and conveniently located within reach of countless beauty spots, bustling cities, and quaint villages in the South East; Guildford station is perfectly placed to transport you wherever you need to go.
With CrossCountry connections all around the UK, you can travel to and from Guildford to a variety of destinations. This makes it ideal for reaching staycation destinations or for visiting Guildford from further afield.
Things to do in Guildford
Guildford is a wonderfully charming town in the heart of Surrey – just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of London to feel quaint and peaceful, with enough character of its own to be well worth a visit!
One of the main things that Guildford is so beloved for is the shopping. Historically, and even today, Guildford has always been a bustling market town with weekly, monthly, and seasonal markets with a huge variety of antiques, gifts, ornaments, clothing, food, and drinks on offer. With such a dedication to their mercantile heritage, it’s no wonder that Guildford remains a prime shopping destination. Stroll down the cobbled streets lined with independent shops of all kinds, or visit high-end fashion outlets and high-street favourites in the enormous Friary shopping centre.
After all that shopping, you’ll need something to refresh and revive you. Why not check out one of Guildford’s famous tea shops, country pubs, or even Michelin starred restaurants for something really special? With signature breweries and local vineyards too, there really is something for everyone to enjoy when it comes to lunchtime in Guildford.
Finally, if you’re a real trainspotting enthusiast, the Steam Dreams Rail Co. is the perfect luxury day out in Guildford – CrossCountry trains approved!
