About the station
Narborough train station has been serving the Leicestershire village of Narborough since 1864 – though it was briefly closed in the mid-20th century.
The station was first opened in 1864, around the time that British rail was beginning to rapidly expand across the country. South Leicestershire Railway originally operated the station, though it was soon taken over by the London and North Western Railway in 1867. In 1968, British Railways closed the station, but a public outcry pushed the operators to reopen the station in 1970 – to much delight of the locals! Following the closure of the station, there were considerable renovations required, which was funded by local councils rather than British Railways or train operators.
The station is locally known geographically for the level crossing across Station Road, which is a distinctive trait of some British railway stations.
Sitting in the heart of the UK’s midlands, Narborough is on CrossCountry train routes between Birmingham and Leicester, as well as operating trains to Cambridgeshire and North Essex. Exclusively operated by CrossCountry in the present day, popular routes include Birmingham to Narborough, Ely to Narborough, Leicester to Narborough, and Stansted to Narborough.
At Narborough train station, facilities include toilets, CCTV, bicycle parking, and a car park which is open 24/7.
